World Book Day was celebrated through a whole Key Stage 3 cross-curricular exploration of Gothic monsters with each curriculum area examining how their subject area influenced the creation of literary Victorian Gothic monsters.
Our pupils experienced creative writing workshops, analytical reading of Gothic literary conventions in English, Scientific experiments influenced by the Gothic medics in Science, Victorian PE drills, the monstrous effects of the Victorian population explosion in Geography, artistic interpretations of the transformation from human to monster in Art, and Mathematical graphs depicting the changing nature of the Victorian era in Maths.
The cross-curricular analysis helped our pupils understand that reading is at the centre of all the work they complete in all of their lessons, and has helped shape the modern culture of today.
