We had some brilliant uniform focus groups with Year 7, 8, 9 and 10s where we opened up the conversation about the students school uniform and school PE kits to understand what they like and don't like about them. It was interesting to hear their thoughts and the details that one who doesn't wear the school uniform would think about, for example, the zip pocket is handy in the main school trousers or that the cotton PE jumper takes too long to dry after being washed.
We asked the students to mind map all the things they like about the current uniform and why, and on another piece of paper, write all the things they don't like about the uniform and PE kit; we then had an open class conversation, after we got the students to flick through Smiths Schoolwear Uniform catalogues and create a school uniform and PE kit they like.
It was a fun and valuable activity, and the students thoroughly enjoyed being part of the process. Yet another example of Broomfield students shaping their school and their future, our students are an integral part of our ongoing school improvement!
