Dear parents and carers
We have had a successful first day back given the weather circumstances. I would like to extend my thanks to all the students that understood the seriousness of the safety situation at school and followed the amended rules with maturity and respect. We will continue to keep the same rules at school, that no student is to play outside. This is because we have an extensive outdoor area and are not able to keep the grounds completely clear from snow and ice.
We will continue with our reduced timetable tomorrow but swap it round. Here are the arrangements:
Year 10 and 11 will arrive at normal time (8.35am) through the Wilmer Way entrance and enter school through main reception. They go straight to form time. Breaktime will be spent in the sports hall. No outdoor play is permitted. Period 3, lunch and 4 will be a special drop down timetable. Students will spend time in their form class, celebrate success in their end of term Achievement Assembly and go to the canteen for Christmas lunch. Year 10 and 11 will be dismissed from the school site between 12.30-1pm to go home safely and sensibly.
Year 7, 8 and 9 will start school at 11.20am. They will enter school through main reception and go straight to form time. Period 3, lunch and 4 will be a special drop down timetable. Students will spend time in their form class, celebrate success in their end of term Achievement Assembly and go to the canteen for Christmas lunch. Year 7, 8 and 9 will then go to their period 5 lesson and dismissed at the usual time of 3.10pm to go home via Wilmer Way.
There will be no access to school through Powys Lane. Students are permitted to wear appropriate footwear with their uniform. These can be trainers or boots with a grip.
Appropriate behaviour in the snow
Students should not throw snow when at school or when in school uniform outside of school. Throwing snowballs can be fun but can also cause harm, especially where there is ice or grit in the snow or when someone is accidentally hit. Please remind your child that throwing objects, including snow, without intent to cause harm carries a sanction of a 30 minute detention and through with intent to cause harm can lead to internal exclusion or suspension. Students should behave sensibly on their way to and from school, and when at school.
Kind regards
Ms Christofi
