As part of their Cambridge National qualification in Sport Studies, a group of Year 11 students went to Herts Young Mariners Base in Cheshunt to take part in Outdoor and Adventurous Actitivies.
The day started with traversing around the the climbing wall, with no ropes, just a partner for guidance and advice on where to move to next. Students then moved onto climbing up the wall and belaying each other for safety. Key skills such as communication, teamwork and empathy were all being developed whilst a lot of screeching (at the top of the wall), laughing and fun was being had.
After lunch, everyone was 'launched' into the lake in their own kayak where students learned to paddle safely and change direction. We played stuck in the mud, tag and a version of handball on the lake. It was then time to jump into the very cold water and swim back to shore.
Thank you to Ian and Colin from the centre, our amazing instructors who delivered an amazing day out for our GCSE students.
